The Herend Porcelain Manufactory was started in 1826 in Herend, Hungary and made earthenware pottery until 1839 when financial difficulties forced a change of ownership. From then on, the factory produced the finest quality porcelain in Hungary and gained popularity worldwide, including several royal courts who ordered complete sets of hand-painted dinnerware.
Herend’s popular ‘fishnet’ pattern was introduced in 1858 and is still being made today. This figurine was discontinued in 2020 and is in the most popular color of fishnet, blue. It charmingly depicts two rabbits - one is munching on an ear of corn while his companion stands guard with his ears erect. It is all hand painted with highlights of 24 karat gold. The blue Herend mark is on the bottom as well as impressed marks for ‘Herend’ and the style number of the piece, 5326. The figurine measures 3.5 inches tall by 2.75 inches wide and is in excellent condition.
