This beautifully woven Peruvian chullu belonged to a Woodstock, NY, resident who collected South American indigenous art. Very similar traditional Andean pieces are in the ethnographic collections of the International Folk Art Museum in Santa Fe and the Weltmuseum Wien in Vienna. This is a vintage, perhaps mid-century youth-sized beanie. It is all wool, likely alpaca, with protruding animal fibers. It is in good used condition, with a bit of pink bleeding into the ivory knit, as shown in photos. It is richly embellished with brightly colored pink, green, blue and yellow designs and symbols. About 9" at the widest. 15" length to the whimsical tassel. While this would look adorable on a child, it is also a piece of art worthy of framing.
