Minas Gerais (General Mines), Brazil is known for it's large number of gemstone mines, so I had to go there. My favorite is the watermelon turmaline. In the picture, I am holding pieces of raw turmaline in a park with local vendors in the town of Teófilo Otoni, mesmerized by the pile of these beauties right in front of me.

You see gemstone dealers and lapidaries everywhere. Also, you can visit lots of gem stores around the square. It's the coolest place I've ever been to, considering my passion tourmaline and other gemstones. If you have a chance, you have to visit Minas Gerais. 😘
