Note:
Woodcut is the oldest known printing process, originating in China around 800 AD. Woodcut is a relief printing technique that involves carving a design into a wooden block using tools like knives and gravers. A design is usually drawn directly onto the block, and then the remaining wood is cut away. The block is then used to make high contrast black and white prints. The raised areas that remain after the block has been cut are inked and printed, while the recessed areas that are cut away do not retain ink, and will remain blank in the final print.
