**Rare Early 20th Century Khasa (Kaasa) Arkilla Kerka Hand Woven Bridal Blanket
**Similar blankets may be found in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Minneapolis Institute of Art and The Harn Museum of Art.
Hand-woven African textile originating from the Fulani people of Mali. Tapestries of this type, representing prestige and grandeur are to be used as tent dividers or marriage-bed screens. Father's of the bride would commission a weaver, usually a man, to create these works of art. It would take sometimes up to a few months to create depending on the pattern's intricacy. These blankets are family heirlooms with much cultural and traditional significance.

Usually made of wool, cotton and camel hair
Fringe at both top and bottom of piece
Early 20th Century
Russet, ivory, yellow ochre and black color interspersed throughout
Measurements: Approximately 47" X 72"
This is an antique textile that has lived a full life, therefore there shows signs of wear including light staining, color fading and loose stitching.
