The semi precious gemstone material was first found on the northwest coast of Madagascar in 2008, while searchers were looking for more deposits of the popular Ocean Jasper. Polychrome jasper is a semi-precious, opaque, multi-colored chalcedony stone that forms in large formations. It's also known as desert jasper or royal savannah jasper. The name polychrome jasper translates to "multi-color jasper" and refers to its variety of colors, which can include browns, oranges, purples, blues, pinks, and greens. The stone can be banded, swirled, or have circular patterns or orbs.
