I see a profile skull wearing some skin as a cap is trying to tell us something - MORS ULTIMA RATIO, "Death is the final accounting". The ends of the banner weave in and out of his ribs finally stopping at a heart. Who once owned this mysterious bag? What did they keep in it? I painted this bag on cotton canvas, then dyed and frayed it until it looked good and old. In some places the paint is thick and crackly. There is some colored string and strips of frayed plaid here and there accenting the seams and giving it even more of a raggedy look. Waxed linen thread with beads and charms attach the strap to each side. Among the charms are: a pewter crucifix, a sterling St. Anthony medallion, a resin skull bead, and a tiny carved wood skull. A vintage button secures the front flap. #180
