Made of lead free pewter Martha Rotten adjustable Frozen Charlotte ring. She has a blue crystal eye. The story of Frozen Charlotte refers to both a popular American folk ballad and the dolls inspired by it. The ballad tells the story of a young woman named Charlotte who, despite a bitterly cold winter night, refuses to bundle up for a sleigh ride to a ball, ultimately freezing to death during the journey. The dolls, typically small, solid porcelain figures, were named in reference to this tragic tale. The Ballad: The poem "A Corpse Going to a Ball" by Seba Smith, published in 1843, is the likely origin of the story. It depicts Charlotte, traveling to a ball in an open sleigh, refusing her mother's pleas to wear warm clothing. She prefers to show off her beautiful dress, even in the freezing cold, and tragically freezes to death.
