Dear Collector, my name is Cassandra Rees and I am a contemporary impressionist. As a self taught artist who is filled with curiosity, I am continuously developing my own style through new techniques. Over the past few years, I have been exploring painting through my palette knife. Sitting down at my easel with my reference photo, my favorite knife, and a palette full of colors, I become completely engrossed for the next few hours. Although painting impasto is challenging especially when applying small details, it gives me a sense of freedom. The painting grows organically in an unpredictable way like nature itself. I can portray a vibrant sea cliff sunset while gliding my knife across the canvas. Once I complete the piece, I then take a step back to see my fresh new composition. The painting evokes the same spirit of inspiration as a California landscape. The beach cliff series depicts our beaches here in California, with turquoise waters, rocky coves, desert cliffs, palm trees, sunsets, and colorful wildflower blooms. I hope to display my love for the palette knife in each of my works.
