Amethyst is a common purple/violet type of quartz. The name of Greek origin literally translates to “Not intoxicate” as it is believed to protect the wearer from drunkenness. It is also believed to be a healing stone. Amethyst is mined in Brazil, Austria, South Korea, and many places in the US

blissjewelry One of the things I love about amethyst is how beautiful it looks mounted in gold or silver. Almost all amethyst these days is heat treated to deepen the color purple, but heat treating to deepen color means the stone will not fade. If untreated amethyst will fade in time if exposed to direct sunlight.
