They are first turned on a lathe by Earl Myers from a paper doll pattern drawn by the artist. The basswood figure is then hand chipped carved with a small hand held knife. Each character is hand painted and numbered by the artist. Their arms and cracker are pegged into body. Each lever is made of oak and opens wide to crack nutshells (pistachios) with his strong jaw. Mary Myers is known for her museum quality, American Folk Art, which is hand carved in the traditional manner.
