Here is a very pretty, round, gold-toned, flapjack compact with a lovely Art Nouveau motif on the top, and a guilloché pattern on the bottom, by Zell. It does show wear/blemishes, so please review all photos. It features an inner door (more Art Deco), thumb press closure, a puff signed Zell Fifth Avenue, and a powder compartment which is clean & empty. The powder compartment is a cream color, also with a pretty pattern. The hinge & closures are all great, and snap right into place, and the mirror is in excellent condition.

Photos 15-16, some timeline info: David Harry Zell (1892-1944) was a prolific inventor. Prior to finding success with compacts, cigarette & vanity cases in his later life, he also had a leather novelty & goods company under the name David H. Zell, Inc. & North American Leather Goods Co. He also designed & patented coin banks which appeared in Popular Science and other publications. Here is his WWII draft card from 1942, 2 years prior to his death. You can see his signature there matching the one on the puff! Lastly, a small mention in his wife's obit (1958), who took over the company after his death.
