YIXING ZISHA CLAY TEAPOT

A small Zisha clay teapot completely handmade by artisans of Yixing. They use special clays found near Yixing Jiangsu Province China. They have a porous nature that allows to absorb traces of the tea flavors and minerals over time enriching the taste of subsequent brews. It probably started as a purple clay and minerals are added to achieve this beautiful green shade. It has a bamboo design handle and spout with a delicate branch leading from the spout with applied tea leaves in contrasting browns. The lid top has a ying/yang design and small raised dots are found along the rim. This is signed both on the bottom and under the lid with the Chinese characters. It measures 5.5" from handle to spout, approx 3.5" in diameter and a height of 3.5" to the top of the lid. These teapots are unglazed and are molded completely by hand. It can be cleaned by using hot water only, no soaps or detergents. If using for brewing never mix teas. This is in excellent condition and doesn't appear to have been used for brewing.
