Winston Boulder Opal, Natural Unpolished, 30.45 carats

This is a 30.45 Ct Natural Winton boulder opal. Boulder opals are only found in Queensland, Australia. Primary opal fields include Winton, Opalton, Quilpie, Yowah, Eromanga, Cunnamulla, and Longreach. These opals are commonly cut into a freeform shape to best showcase the veins of color. The natural ironstone backing makes the opal naturally vivid and the colour so vibrant. It a “natural doublet” created in nature. To me it looks like a thin layer of colored sugar icing on a thin chocolate colored slab.
