French artist. Circa 1905. Original piece is pastel on brown wove paper coated with sawdust. As a young man, Redon was fascinated with Darwinian biology and enjoyed a close friendship with Armand Clavaud, the curator of the botanical gardens in his hometown of Bordeaux.
This piece is a dense fiberboard with a glossy smooth picture finish on one side and a smooth bare finish on the reverse with a painted gold edge. Metal D-ring attached on the back for hanging. Measures about 11"x 14". Wonderful vintage condition.
