Monax is a thin, semi-opaque white glass that appears delicate. It is often mistaken for traditional milk glass, but milk glass is typically thicker and a more solid, opaque white. When held to the light, quality Monax pieces may have a faint bluish or opalescent shimmer, especially around the edges. This patter is the "American Sweetheart" pattern, characterized by intricate, lacy, and finely detailed scrollwork.
It was produced by the MacBeth-Evans Glass Company during the Great Depression (1930s-1940s). It is now a collector's item and quite beautiful.
Set of two each teacup and saucer.
