Wedding Dress for a Goddess Size 6 Light Ivory Alencon Lace w Pearls Handmade in France 1982 Miller & Rhoads Bridal Shop, Richmond, VA This beautiful dress was purchased in 1982 – it has calla lily sleeves - Alencon lace (point d’Alencon) is called the “Queen of lace” which was first produced in Alencon, France, in the 1500s and was expanded during the reign of Louis XIV – Alencon lacemaking is preserved today by Carmelite nuns and a National Lace Workshop has been established in the town of Alencon to make sure this lace making survives. It is made entirely by hand with a fine needle upon a parchment pattern in small pieces. Each part is executed by a special workman. The lace in this wedding dress also has “seed” pearls throughout the lace design. Designer – French lacemakers – made in the USA for Miller and Rhoads Bridal Shop.
