Kensington Gardens features an 18th century design with neoclassically influenced columns by opulent floral arrangements with twining blossoms encircling the column. This design is from the Waterhouse archives, which boasts one of the finest collections of circa 1700 to 1920 wallpapers. These papers were designed and often hand painted by the most accomplished artists of their day and are truly works of art and then carried by clipper ships from Asian and European ports to the bustling seaports of New England.
Dorothy Waterhouse spent years traveling the New England countryside, searching trunks, attics, and even closets of old homesteads for fragments of the original papers. The papers she found hidden often under layers of paint or wallpaper are the basis for this outstanding collection and an important part of the American heritage because each design is a work of art, each design is not only timeless, but also always in good taste serving as the perfect setting for any decorating style.
