WW 2 ERA JAPANESE HAND MADE CIGARETTE CASE...STITCHING SHOWN

Stylish cigarette case featuring an artistic leaf design with intricate details. Handmade in Occupied Japan. At the end of WWII, my aunt, who was already working in San Francisco for the Army, was sent to Japan to work with the occupation force in Japan. At that time, she did a lot of sight seeing and loved the country and the people. She wasted no time after returning to San Francisco to get a new passport and stay in Japan for a time, teaching English. Each time she returned, she brought back handmade items to the family. This is a cigarette case she brought to my father who smoked at the time. You can see the stitching on the side of each piece. I wish I could figure out how this is made. It has some beautiful leaves inlayed on the top/ front. It seems the thin wood (probably cherry wood) is so flexible, it is likely heated and put around a form and shaped as you see. The stitches are each one perfectly executed. That has to be how it is done. The last photo is of the Japanese print on the case. I checked online and found two on eBay for more than this one costs. I also have a tiny Japanese cooking set. I'm 80 now. She got this for me when I was 2 ;'). So I know about these items. They have been in my possession since that time.
