petalsandpearls @alainea Hi! It's been a long time! How are you? It's been a little rough over here, my grandmother passed away last Thursday after a battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. We were preparing ourselves for her passing since December when we got the news, but of course it's still hard. Funny enough, we didn't have a trip planned for this year until free dining was announced. Now we are going in either Sept or Dec.( we got reservations for both) ☺

alainea @petalsandpearls I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother! I know you are a close knit family and it's never easy when it happens, no matter how long you've been preparing yourself. You and your family will be in my thoughts. Is this the grandmother that loved Disney? That would be a great way to celebrate her life and share the happy memories you've had together.

alainea My husbands whole family is going in Sept. We are not. I don't handle heat well. My dept is going through some changes and I'm not sure I can even get time off. We are thinking about going in Dec once it starts. We're hoping to at least book and if we have to cancel later, we will. What dates in Dec are you going and where have you booked? I wanted to stay at Riverside but it's not included in Dec. A lot of the options are gone already so we are very limited to choices.

petalsandpearls @alainea Thank you. She was my Disney loving grandmother so I think that was one of the reasons for booking this trip. I really can't stand September heat either, it's so awful. Luckily, we found available rooms for December. For some reason free dining seemed to sell VERY quickly this year

alainea @petalsandpearls It has and it isn't nearly as good as it used to be since moderates only get quick service and you have to pay to upgrade. We like moderates a lot, they have a nice atmosphere. We've only stayed at one deluxe, Animal Kingdom Lodge (beautiful) and one value, Pop Century, which has a fun, cool theming. He's stayed at the All Stars on previous trips when he was younger. We're still trying to decide whether to book and where.

petalsandpearls @alainea I think Disney is trying to eventually get rid of free dining and they keep changing things each year to make it harder for people. We have only ever stayed at value resorts because we hit the parks for full days and are never at the resort other than to sleep.

alainea Right now the cheapest options are Old Key West & Saratoga Springs. They're still more than we'd like to pay. I've never really had an interest in Saratoga Springs but it does look nice and has a better food court. There are pros & cons to both. Sadly they aren't much more than the moderates when they were still available.

petalsandpearls @alainea Saratoga has a nice food court. We always walk by in to go the bathroom after eating at The Turf Club. They have such a good steak served with lobsters fondue dipping sauce 😋

alainea @petalsandpearls I agree that they're trying to phase it out. They're not having problems filling up like they did when they started it. I've put on a ton of weight and definitely have to lose before the trip. Same thing though, I try to lose and very little happens.

alainea I'd prefer not to check in on a Friday but since I may have trouble getting unpaid days off of work, I wanted to make the most of the trip and get two weekends. I wanted to go on Thursday instead and leave the 17th but it doesn't start until Friday. My preferred dates are Nov. 30th- Dec 10th. Not as close to school break.

alainea I do love steak! Probably part of why I never lose much before a trip (that and the sugar consumption..). I've been thinking about playing around with dates but we've spoiled ourselves by taking longer trips the last 3 times. I can't get too close to when school goes on winter break plus I want to avoid Christmas crowds!

petalsandpearls @alainea I've noticed that they've also limited the free dining days too. The last two years October has been completely unavailable, probably because they have no problem filling rooms at that time with MNSSHP

alainea @petalsandpearls Yes and November is getting worse b/c they keep extending the food & wine festival. We went to that in 2015 and have never encountered so many rude & drunk people there before. I like the idea of the festival but the people ruined it for us. My husband said he'll never go back when it's going on again.

alainea @petalsandpearls it was also record highs the year we went and reached 100 degrees on some days. Totally miserable! You asked if I'm on PM much anymore and the answer is no. I've been so busy with work that I've gotten really bad about it. Hopefully I can get back into it this summer. I'm home sick today which is why I'm on.

alainea @petalsandpearls When my hubby will let me, I definitely want you to do a Beauty and the Beast wallet for me. I'm totally obsessed it. Have you seen the new live action movie? I cried. I think they did it so beautifully! I saw it twice, the first time in Chicago to see it in IMAX, the second in the regular theater in town. I definitely recommend it, especially in IMAX. I had high standards for it and am always weary of remakes.
