Le Sac (Renata Le Sac) was a high-quality Italian brand active mainly from the 1970s through the 1990s. They were known for producing small runs of elegant evening bags in Italian workshops, not mass factory production. • The black silk/rayon velvet exterior is hand-cut and hand-stitched with the characteristic soft gathers that are very difficult (and expensive) to do perfectly by machine. • The gold-plated brass frame with rhinestone corners is hand-soldered and hand-set — each crystal is individually placed and prong-set, which is always a hand operation. • The leather lining and the way the leather piping is turned and stitched around the frame are classic signs of handwork coming out of small artisan ateliers in Florence or Milan. • The gold-embossed “Le Sac – Made in Italy – Genuine Leather” mark inside is the exact style used by Italian makers who were proud of their hand craftsmanship (mass-produced bags rarely bothered with that level of interior branding in the 1980s–90s).
