Vtg 1970’s Bronze Sculpture Tug Of War Children Signed Artist EVANS Handmade Detroit Artist
We are the original owners and have several more Bill Evans sculptures for sale in our one of a kind vintage shop.
Signed on the front of the bronze " EVANS 74".
The children lean over the wood base in the hope of their side will win. The sculpture is 10" wide x 6" tall. The wooden base is 8 1/2" x 3" x 1 1/2".
The children are playing the beloved game of “Tug Of War”.
Tug of war is a classic game that's frequently played at children's parties and family gatherings. In a game of tug of war, 2 teams stand at opposite ends of a rope and try to tug the rope until the majority of it is pulled over their side of the center line or marker.
On one side there is girl with pig tails and a boy with textured hair yanking away while the opposite side has a girl with very long hair and a tall boy with a wide arm span. The "rope" is 10 1/2" long with a bit of slack at the end.
The children are very detailed making it very easy to delineate girl from boy. Stunning detail of the movement of the children along the rope playing the game.
This piece is pure whimsical charm.

This one of a kind bronze was purchased from the Coach House Gallery that was on Van Dyke Place in Indian Village, Detroit, Michigan in the early 1970’s. Nona Herzog owned the gallery.
She was very active and involved with local artists as well as the Scarab Club downtown.
