Vintage & Signed Ruby Z Red and Black Polka Dot Brooch. Company History: The original company was called Parrot Pearls and was founded in 1975 in San Francisco. Their trademark, easily recognizable pieces are ceramic jewelry in fanciful shapes such as animals, flowers, and incorporating colorful beads made into necklaces and pins. These were artisan companies with hand finished products. Parrot Pearls split off in the 1980's into Flying Colors (run by former Parrot Pearl employees) and into Ruby Z, owned by two of the original founders of PP, Bean Finneran and Candace Loheed.
