Vintage 70's Cobalt Blue Caged Wirewrap Art Glass Bead Necklace

Bright Cobalt Blue Handmade Art Glass Beads are set inside cages of silver tone. The cages are handmade, as is the hook clasp, and very solid. The beads are gorgeously irregular (handmade) and the white you see in the centers is Kaolin (also known as "China clay"), a fine white clay used to prevent molten glass from sticking to the steel rod during beadmaking. (Can be removed with water, though I have not tried as I kind of like how it highlights their making.) These beads have a nice weight as would be expected. Cobalt blue glass, infused with cobalt oxide, has a rich history and enduring allure. Its vibrant color, resistance to fading, and ability to withstand high temperatures make it a prized material for both art and functional items. It has been prized since the 8th century!
