Vintage opera pearls - real or faux?

The photo shows two sets of fine, heavy, hand-knotted opera pearls. One strand is 48 inches while the other is 58 inches. I was convinced these are faux pearls, but it is impossible to tell for certain. I always go the distance to authenticate items being sold.
