Early 1970s David’s of Fort Lauderdale Lace Wedding Gown – Pre-Chain David’s Bridal / Emma Domb Style Edwardian Revival Prairie Dress
An exceptionally rare piece of early David’s Bridal history.
This gown carries the boutique-era label “davids / Fort Lauderdale, FLA.” - the mark of the original David’s Bridal salon founded in Fort Lauderdale in the 1950s, decades before the company expanded into the national retail chain.
Made circa 1968–1973, this dress perfectly captures the romantic Edwardian Revival / boho prairie aesthetic made popular by designers like Emma Domb and Gunne Sax. It was likely purchased through the Fort Lauderdale boutique, which often retailed high-end California-made gowns under its own shop label.
Soft ivory lace overlays a silky lining; crochet-style insets trace the seams; and fabric-covered buttons trail down the bodice. A high Victorian neckline and sheer bishop sleeves with lace cuffs give way to a flowing A-line skirt trimmed in scalloped lace. Ethereal, feminine, and steeped in early-’70s bridal charm.
