This is a Vintage Western Mexico Signed Alpaca Silver and Mother of Pearl Belt Buckle
It’s marked "Alpaca" (very faintly).
There are abalone mother of pearl inlayed chips
It measures 3.15" x 2.25”
It’s in great condition, just a tiny chip in upper right corner and an even smaller one in middle right. It will look even better with polishing!
Alpaca is a type of alloy, sometimes spelled alpacca, indicates a metal that contains copper, zinc, and nickel along with tin. In Mexico, Central America and South America, alpaca silver is frequently used to make jewelry and crafts. It is incredibly durable and malleable, allowing itself to be shaped into detailed pieces while being strong enough to hold its shape. The end products can be beautiful, but people with nickel allergies should avoid wearing alpaca silver jewelry to avoid potential breakouts.
