Vintage Turned Wood Sewing Notions Jar – 1950s–70s Japan – With Buttons, Thread, Scissors & Sunbonnet Sue Needle Holder
Charming vintage sewing notions jar housed in a beautifully turned and hand-decorated wooden bowl with lid. The bowl possibly mid-century Made in Japan, with a rounded shape and etched floral design. (The stamp is very difficult to read, Most likely Japan but could be another country)
Inside is a delightful assortment of vintage sewing treasures:
• Mixed lot of vintage buttons (mostly browns, tans, marbled plastics)
• Three original button cards (1950s–60s)
• Several vintage brown/tan thread spools
• Small gold-tone embroidery scissors
• Handmade felt “Sunbonnet Sue” needle holder with needles
• Small vintage fabric scraps and trims
Bowl details:
• Solid turned wood with knobbed lid
• Hand-burned floral motif
• Faded stamp on bottom typical of mid-century Japanese souvenir pieces
• Approx. 4.5–5” diameter
• Very good vintage condition with light age wear. there is small damage on the bowl, at the top opening (see photos)
A wonderful little time-capsule for sewing collectors, junk journal artists, and lovers of vintage wooden decor.
