RARE VINTAGE STRAIGHT RAZOR: Shumate Razor in a J.A.HENCKELS, TWIN WORKS box (the box shows some fading of the gold letters due to age). This razor was my great grandfather's who was stationed in Germany; not sure why he had this razor in the J.A. box. The razor is in excellent condition>.
This razor predates the company's demise as "Shumate Razor Co." existed only until 1920 making this razor 97-117 years of age. Some light tarnish due to age but still retains much of the high polish (see pics)!
** This straight razor is extremely sharp and ready for that close shave! **
"The primary purpose of a straight razor is to provide a close and smooth shave, and for many, it offers a more traditional and sustainable shaving experience compared to disposable or cartridge razors. With practice, a straight razor can deliver a SUPERIOR SHAVE, REDUCING THE RISK OF RAZOR BURN AND INGROWN HAIRS."
Mfg photo(s), if also shown, are for fit and/or style. There may be slight differences in mfg photos vs item for sale. Ask me if unsure.
Colors may look different when viewed on different devices. Ask me if unsure.

Hello, I think you may have been given some incorrect history.
Sometime between 1904 and 1906 the company known as Shumate Cutlery Co. relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, and was known for producing quality razors, which they continued to make and sell until about 1931. They never had connections with Solingen GE. Shumate Razor Company sourced the majority of their steel from US-based manufacturers along with some specialty alloyed steel from Sheffield England. It is an VERY nice razor however.

NP. It is a wonderful example of Shumate razors. Just didn't want a buyer to be impolite with the razor/box misalignment. I'd buy it now if I didn't already have two similar. ;) Good luck with your sale. The buyer will be very lucky to have such a fine implement.

@parn0023 The razor/box was exactly as it is. This piece was with my great-grandfather's things. I wonder why this razor was in that box?

I've seen it before and it is pretty common all in all. Boxes degrade and the better razors owned get to live in boxes.
