Made in the 1950s, this is a very unique vintage jewelry box as the scene is uncommon and the box is embellished with lavish baroque detail. The box is made of silver metal that is a mix of nickel, lead, and chrome.
The domed lid has a colonial hunting scene with a man in Colonial attire, a rifle, a Revolutionary era triangular hat, and a hunting dog near his feet. The lady has a full hoop skirt and hat; all in a garden setting. The lid is also adorned with Fleur de Lis style corners and roses an leaves. The lower portion of the box has heavy baroque detail in relief and a domed ball at the front. The box has four scrolled legs and the original red velvet inside.
Medium in size, the jewelry box is 3" tall 4 1/8" wide x 3 3/4" front to back. The box is in exceptional condition with no imperfections or flaws such as scratches, dings, cracks, or dents. It has been cleaned and polished but retains the original old antiqued patina. The box is signed Japan on the bottom. * In one of my photos, it looks like the domed ball on the front is dented but it is just a light reflection.
