Vintage Russian Matreshka Birch Wooden Nesting Doll Hand Set of Five Matryoshka dolls, also known as a Russian nesting dolls. These wooden dolls are designed to open up and contain smaller, similarly shaped dolls inside. Matryoshka dolls originated in Russia in the late 19th century and are a symbol of Russian culture, often representing family, fertility, and the matriarchal figure. The name "Matryoshka" comes from the Russian word for "little matron" or "little mother," derived from the popular name Matryona, associated with a healthy, portly mother figure. These beautiful ladies were aquired from an estate auction. The only markings I can find read, "5M. K.B." They are not new, they are antiques. I am basing my price on other dolls that are similar, hoping they will find a new home where someone will find joy in having them.
