This is an antique or vintage wooden box with a lid framed in possibly sterling silver, (seller did not polish so to keep fabric safe) featuring a Pre-Columbian textile fragment under glass.
The box is crafted from dense tropical hardwood, maybe rosewood or mahogany, and features a hand-hammered sterling silver bezel framing the textile. The textile fragment is an authentic Pre-Columbian Andean piece, likely dating between 600 and 1400 CE, possibly from the Wari or Inca culture of present-day Peru.
The textile is hand-woven, often from alpaca or llama wool, and features symbolic motifs in this case llamas in natural dyes.
These boxes serve as a refined presentation for ancient textile fragments, combining historical and artistic value.
While primarily decorative, these boxes can also be functional for storing small items like jewelry or stationery.
Measures approximately 4 1/2” x 3” and 2 inches tall with the lid.
