Authentic Vintage U.S. Navy Cruise Jacket
Rare custom embroidered jacket from the USS Tarawa (LHA-1) during the 1980–1981 WESTPAC (Western Pacific) deployment.
I am the second owner of this jacket - the person I received it from was in the navy in the 80s.
These “cruise jackets” were privately made for crew members during overseas port calls (commonly in Thailand, Japan, or the Philippines) and were never available for retail sale. Each jacket is unique, making them highly collectible pieces of Cold War–era military history.
Details & Features:
Ship & Deployment: USS Tarawa (LHA-1) WESTPAC 1980–81
Design: Large embroidered cobra with “MASTER OF THE SEA” and WESTPAC tour locations (Hawaii, Guam, Philippines, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Indian Ocean, Singapore, Pattaya Beach, Thailand)
Color: Black body with red lining
Trim: Ribbed collar, cuffs, and waistband in red/yellow/black stripes
Closure: Brass zipper (period correct)
Condition:
Vintage used, with minor signs of wear from age (light marks to be cleaned and minimal fading). Pilling on rubbing was removed mostly, ribbing and embroidery remain strong and vibrant. Excellent condition for a 40+ year-old military cruise jacket.
