Vintage Peruvian Nativity Retablado

This is a handmade Peruvian Nativity Retablo. Retablos are a traditional Andean folk art form, which are portable boxes depicting religious, historical, or everyday events. The art form is especially characteristic of the Ayacucho region of Peru. This vintage hand painted wood box has hinged doors and opens to a nativity scene featuring hand painted wood Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, 3 Kings, a camel, two sheep, and a donkey, in excellent condition, approximate dimensions: 3.5” high, 3” wide, 1” deep.
