Vintage Patchwork Quilt Top – 1930s–50s Quilt Blocks with 1970s/80s Black & Red Sashing – 94” x 72”
This large vintage quilt top combines much older quilt blocks with newer sashing fabric, creating a bold and graphic piece with both history and character.
The patchwork blocks (four-patch variations) feature fabrics dating from the 1930s–1950s, including shirtings, plaids, calicos, and geometric prints. These appear to have been repurposed or saved from an earlier quilt project. In the 1970s–80s, they were set into wide black and red cotton sashing, creating a striking lattice effect.
The quilt measures approximately 94” x 72”, a generous size suitable for a full or queen bed once finished. This is a quilt top only — it has not been quilted or bound.
Condition:
• Quilt top only (unfinished).
• Blocks show age-related wear, light fading, some frayed edges from older fabrics (see photos).
• Sashing fabric is sturdy, strong, and from a later era (70s/80s).
• A wonderful candidate for finishing, restoration, or using as-is for décor or study of historic fabrics.
Details:
• Size: ~94” x 72”
• Blocks: 1930s–1950s prints (cottons, shirtings, calicos)
• Sashing: 1970s–1980s solid cotton in black & red
• Handmade, machine and hand stitching visible
This quilt top is perfect for collectors of vintage textiles, quilters who love a project with history, or anyone looking for a bold statement piece.
