Vintage Occupied Japan LARGE TEACUP SAUCER Hand Painted Ornate Handle Grapes and Vines Design Heavy 22 kt Gold Footed Tea Cup Elephant Mark
Exquisite Occupied Japan teacup and saucer hand painted in bright teal and magenta colors, made in the 1940's.
The fine porcelain teacup set is large with the teacup measuring 5 1/2" diameter x 3 1/4" tall. The ornate handle measures 2 3/4" x 1 1/8". The saucer measures 6 1/2" diameter.
The teacup has panels of burgundy and teal grapes, vines and leaves with 22 kt gold trim against a creamy white background. That alternates with a burgundy panel with gold floral and a teal panel with gold floral. The inside of the cup has a sweet large hand painted grapes, vines and leaves design in the center. The edges are scalloped and trimmed in the 22 kt gold.
The bottoms of the cup and saucer is stamped with a "gray elephant" in an orange shield surrounded by "HAND PAINTED and MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN". The company who made this was active before WWII up to 1954.
The footed tea cup and saucer are in excellent condition with normal signs of wear for a piece this age.
This is a stunning over sized cup and saucer set that is sure to make a statement in your teacup collection.
