Designed by Nettie Rosenstein, this necklace features a large roman coin with the portrait of Cosimo III de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Chain is approx. 27 inches long. Pendant is 1.75 inches wide. Stamp on back of pendant with designer's signature. In good used condition. Some tarnish on chain and pendant and gold dangles (see photos).
Nettie Rosenstein, born in 1886 in New York City, was a twentieth-century fashion designer and entrepreneur who was instrumental in the popularization of the “little black dress” in America. She was also a prominent American jewelry designer.
Rosenstein's jewelry became popular in the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by bold designs and the use of high-quality materials. She was known for her use of semi-precious stones and intricate metalwork, often incorporating motifs inspired by nature. Her pieces were worn by celebrities and featured in high-fashion magazines, establishing her as a key figure in American jewelry design.
