Vintage Native Zuni Sunface Brooch 60's

Classic old Native Zuni handmade piece. For centuries the Zuni treasured this ancient symbol, & its design has been found on many artifacts. This particular piece is in one of the most cherished forms - wonderfully done with traditional precious stone inlay of turquoise, coral, mother of pearl & jet. Each with its own meaning. The turquoise in the upper right represents oneness between the physical and spiritual realms; the coral alongside it offers protection & comfort. The sun’s main face is mother of pearl, which embodies intuition & imagination, while the black jet of fossilized wood completes the face’s features. Together these four materials & their vividly contrasting colors balance each other within a unified circle. This treasure is unmarked - most weren’t at that time - 60's or even earlier. Check out the length of that pin - speaks to this piece’s authentic 60+ year age. Solid sterling silver with patina as one would expect. When looking on the back one can clearly see that the silver was hand cut as this is a totally handmade piece. This brooch measures slightly over an inch in diameter.
