When looking at pieces of jewelry made by Otto Robert Bade, it’s not difficult to see that they resemble those pieces made by Frank Rebajes and there is a reason for that! Otto Robert Bade, born in 1921, served as the foreman for Rebajes Jewelry during the 1940s and 50s. When Frank Rebajes decided to sell his famous company and move to Spain in late 1950s, Bade purchased Frank Rebajes’ catalog designs and machinery and started his own company under the name of Orb Originals in 1960. Bade enjoyed great success in the business until 1981 when he was robbed, pistol whipped and left in critical condition. He and his wife moved to New Hope, Pennsylvania to recover from this terrible incident. Orb Silversmiths operated from this location for many years and Otto continued to have an active part in the business until he was well into his nineties.
This modern rendition of a Owl recreated in sterling silver is uniquely made. Mechanical catch is secure. There is some minor surface tarnish on the front. This brooch has not been dipped or cleaned, but instead left with it’s rich vintage patina. Bear in mind that because of bright lighting and close photography that surface scratches are intensified and will appear more visible in the photos than when you actually view this brooch. This is a wonderful example of a modernist jewelry design! Signed on Back of Brooch: Orb Sterling in solid Sterling silver 925 marked and tested. Dimensions are approx. 2.6" x 0.9" x 0.3", and weights about 9g
