An antique mortise lock. It is characterized by being installed into a rectangular pocket or mortise cut into the edge of the door, rather than being surface-mounted. The lock has a black finish on the main body and a weathered, possibly silver-colored, faceplate. The faceplate shows signs of wear and age, with chipped paint and discoloration. Though the lock and faceplate is definitely beaten up. I saved all the parts and this is perfect for someone with antique doors. When my key broke the locksmith removed the entire thing and I wasn’t lucky enough to find a similar one for a price. I was willing to pay so I have a hole in my door and a deadbolt. I suppose my bad luck might be someone’s good luck.
Search results confirm that similar antique mortise locks are available for sale, often dating back to the 1800s. These types of locks were popular during the Victorian era and are often sought after for their aesthetic appeal and historical value
