Vintage Max Papart "The Circle" Original Etching/Aquatint Edition 71/100 Signed Limited to 100 Fantastic, charming, whimsical etching signe and numbered by Max Papart (1911-1994) in pencil. Edition limited to 100, plus 30 A. P. Printed by hand at Morasan Atelier, Paris. 1979. This etching/aquatint is from our large collection of vintage fine art and posters. Measures 8" x 5 1/2" for the entire piece. The embossed square that "The Circle" is in 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". In the lower left hand corner is embossed "NAHAN" for the gallery in New Orleans. Included is the provenace signed by Fred Elliot from the NAHAN GALLEIES and the original cream colored folder. Max Papart: French painter Max Papart studied printmaking in Paris and explore etching with carborundum, a technique much favored by Joan Miro. Known for “composing” rather than painting, and worked in a semi-cubist style. Many of his original signed paintings and drawings present the viewer with a window onto a different world. Master printmaker, born in Marseille, Max Papart learned the techniques of classic engraving in 1936 in Paris. In 1960, he added to the classic processes the technique of etching with carborundum invented by his friend Henri Goetz. In the years 1969-73 Papart taught printmaking at the University of Paris VIII-Vincennes. He continues to make his own plates and to supervise the hand printing of his prints.
