Vintage Lahaina Scrimshaw Fossil Walrus Ivory Pendant – Hawaiian Island Scene

This is an authentic Lahaina Scrimshaw pendant, hand-engraved on genuine fossil walrus ivory. The design depicts a Hawaiian island scene with palm trees, hibiscus flowers, mountains, ocean waves, and a rainbow. Its signed. I believe by Bill Christianson. Lahaina Scrimshaw was located in downtown Lahaina, Maui, a well-known workshop active in the late 20th century. I personally worked in the shop and can confirm its origin. This piece is at least 25 years old, making it a genuine example of Lahaina’s scrimshaw artistry. Material & Authenticity: • Genuine fossil walrus ivory (not elephant or whale ivory). • Fossil ivory shows the characteristic outer cream layer and darker mineralized core. • Patina and natural age cracks confirm its authenticity. • Fossil walrus ivory is legal to buy, sell, and own, unlike modern elephant or whale ivory. • Weight: 5 grams • Size: 1.25” tall x 5/8” wide • Age: At least 25 years old • Condition: Good vintage condition with natural patina. Engraving remains sharp with original hand coloring. Provenance: Direct from the Lahaina Scrimshaw shop on Front Street, Maui.
