A vivid hand-painted scene frozen in time: four graceful geishas stroll beneath spring blossoms and pagoda rooftops in this beautifully detailed vintage Japanese porcelain plate. Every line—down to the lantern posts and floral stems—is carefully brushed in reddish enamel, with pops of green, lavender, and blue creating a serene garden palette. Raised enamel details on the kimono sleeves and flowers give it subtle texture and dimension.
The underside bears a red hand-applied mark—possibly “NAZB” or a batch number—but some of the paint is chipped on the marking, making the exact mark unclear. What we do know: this plate was likely made between the 1940s and 1960s, a time when Japan was producing stunning decorative export wares in small studios. It’s not mass-produced, and the slight irregularities in paint and glaze are proof of its handmade origins.
• Approx. 6” diameter
• Vivid, detailed, and flawless on the display side—no cracks, no chips
• One tiny chip on the underside (bottom of the plate)—not visible when displayed and only noticeable by touch
• Hand-painted with raised enamel detailing
• Excellent overall vintage condition
