A charming pair of mid-century Japanese sequin candy cane ornaments, each with a climbing pixie elf in classic knee-hugger style. These were hand-assembled in the late 1950s to early 1960s, when Japan was exporting whimsical Christmas decor to Woolworth, Sears, and five-and-dime holiday counters across the U.S.
Each candy cane is made of a styrofoam core wrapped in red satin ribbon, then covered in layered sequins secured with silver straight-pins. The elves are molded hard plastic with hand-painted faces, gold-tipped shoes, and original attached nylon hanging loops — rarely still present.
