Vintage 1950s Italian 18K gold bumble bee brooch w lavender jade cabochons & ruby eyes. Handcrafted luxury w mid-century hallmarks and natural color play.
Handmade Italian solid 18K gold bumble bee brooch, stamped “K18” & “Italy.” This striking mid-century piece features 2 luminous lavender jade cabochons (≈6 ctw) forming the body & ruby cabochon eyes (≈1.2mm each) bring the bee vividly to life.
The lavender jade displays beautiful angle-dependent color play, appearing softer in ambient light & deepening to a richer violet-lavender tone under strong directional light. The optical characteristics in the images are consistent w natural lavender jadeite rather than dyed material.
The reverse bears the K18 & Italy stamps along w a partially obscured maker’s hallmark in a rectangular cartouche; only the first of three numbers—a “5”—is visible due to the placement of the leg. Hallmark style is indicative of 1950s Italian manufacture. A set of hand-etched numbers (“528,” difficult to fully discern) appears nearby & likely added later.
Finely hand-textured wings, sculptural detail, & substantial 10.2-gram weight highlight the quality of Italian mid-century craftsmanship.

@vintagestuff Hi! We had both the gold & jade appraised by a specially trained Gia-certified appraiser to have both the 18 K gold & jade authenticated (Providence Jewelers in WPB as jade appraisal requires a special machine & training). A certificate of authenticity from a certified appraiser is $150 (which I can get for the additional cost). I will also try to take a clearer picture & post it.
