This listing is for a beautiful pair of handmade brass rubbings, wrapped in a protective plastic wrap. These pieces are based on historic designs from medieval Europe, making them a unique and meaningful addition to any art collection or home decor.
1. Angel from Hereford Cathedral: This rectangular rubbing (approx. 7.25" x 9.25") features a half-figure of a winged angel holding a bell and a bowl. The design is based on a brass from 1524 at Hereford Cathedral in Herefordshire.
2. The Four Evangelistic Symbols: This rubbing (approx. 8.25" x 9") depicts the four evangelistic symbols. The designs are a detail from the brass of Marguerite de Scornay from Nivelles, Belgium, circa 1460. The symbols represent the Four Evangelists: the man for St. Matthew, the lion for St. Mark, the ox for St. Luke, and the eagle for St. John.
Both rubbings are in vintage condition. They are individually wrapped in clear plastic to preserve the intricate details. Please note they are not framed, allowing for personal customization. Please see the photos for the exact designs and condition.
These stunning pieces offer a glimpse into medieval artistry and symbolism.
