Vintage French ceramic lidded bowl Blois Faiencerie
Approx. 4 1/4” diameter x 2 1/4” tall
The first ceramics workshop in Blois was launched by Ulysse Besnard in 1862. The most famous are decorated with royal emblems such as the porcupine of Louis XII, the ermine of his wife Anne of Brittany, the salamander of Francis 1st. A great scholar, he was inspired by the forms and decorations of majolica of the Italian Renaissance.
The factory closed its doors permanently in 1953.
Here is a superb rare collector’s item from this manufacturer, in great vintage condition.
