Charming art ready to hang. In excellent used condition in what I believe to be the original tin frame. Depicts what appears to be a harvest in an ancient natural setting.
The piece including the frame is 10x12. The art itself is 6x8. Snap closure in back. It's difficult to show in photos, but there's two tin frames here — the thick outer frame and the smaller 1-inch high raised frame.
I wish I had more info to give.. It dates to 2000-2004 and is from a store in Sanibel Island, Florida, that no longer exists. Likely one of a kind.
This form is arpillera, brightly colored textile pieces combining fabric (in this case felt) with embroidery in scenes that often take on a 3D-like appearance. on burlap.
Originated by women in Chile in the 1970s in response to political and social impression, they typically depict traditional scenes or historical memories primarily in South American countries and Mexico.
I can't be certain what this depicts, but it could be ancient Mexico, Chile or Peru judging by the pyramids and clothing (feather headdresses, poncho). The lower right seems to depict a prickly pear which is commonly associated with Mexico.
Looks like there's a signature on the bottom right that could be "Elsa" with a last name (Rino, Rina, Ryva, Ryva?). Or the "last name" could just depict bushes/flowers throughout the scene. Could not find any other information despite a long search. I opened the back to check and there is no information there either.
