It even rivals, if not surpasses, the exceptionally durable Austrian and Hungarian handcrafted Budapesters in terms of solidity. The "Imperial" should not be confused with either the general mass-produced product or the modern Florsheim Imperial. Although the modern Imperial is a shoe of absolutely fine quality, it bears no comparison to this historic Imperial. A glance at the sole and heel—note the double row of hand-driven nails and rectangular cleats protecting the heel—is enough to reveal the difference. Without exaggeration, a gigantic, indestructible shoe that will last forever, yet still boasts delightful little details. The characteristics of the finest shoes are combined in this masterpiece: edge binding, split reverse welt [Image #9], double-welted sole, and glove-thin box calfskin lining. A truly impressive work of shoemaking.
