This is a vintage Dietz Monarch kerosene railroad lantern with a deep red Fitzall Loc-Nob globe, made in New York, USA. Unlike repainted examples, this lantern retains its original finish, showing natural patina and character from age.
The globe is embossed “DIETZ FITZALL N.Y. U.S.A.” on one side and “LOC-NOB REGD IN U.S.A.” on the other. Both the top and base are stamped “DIETZ MONARCH”, and the fuel cap carries the Dietz logo.
It measures approximately 13 inches tall, 7 inches wide, and weighs about 2 lbs 2.6 oz. The globe is intact with no cracks, and the body shows oxidation but no holes. The cap opens and closes properly. The lantern is untested and offered as found.
The Monarch model was widely used in the mid-20th century by railroads and industry, with red globes typically indicating stop or danger.
